The goal of the subject, that the studnets get familiar with the physical properties of the main type of rocks. It is introducing to the students the most common types of landslide problems, their solutions, the risk analysis in the field of engineering geology, the importance of the in-situ stresses in the rock mechanical design. The students get to know the theoretical background of the rock mass classification systems, the relations between the different rock mass classification systems. They learn to use these systems for rock engineering design in normal and weak rock masses. With the completion of the subject they learn to use the introduced design methods and monitoring through examples.
